I've bought 3 of these drives. 2 have been replaced due to faults. And one of the replacements has gone.
These are the most unrealiable drives I have ever purchased.
If you search on google - seagate have tried to cover up problems with these drives.

I thought I'd just be able to plug this in and use it but no. Having now seen the hundreds of other people moaning about the installation problems on the Seagate website I wish I'd bought something else. No doubt I'll get it working eventually after upgrading bits of this and that and spending hours on helplines but what a hassle!

This drive appeared to be an ideal upgrade/replacement for the drive in my 24" intel iMac. But within a month the system crashed and every startup from then on was greeted with a kernel panic. It wasn't even possible to start up with a system DVD. The only way was to use an external firewire hard drive. Then disk utility didn't recognise the Seagate so it couldn't be reformatted. Neither could it be erased, so it had to be returned complete with any personal info stored on it. Seagate say the drive isn't one that has been affected by their well-documented firmware issues. I don't think I'll be getting another, I'm trying Western Digital next.

I've always been a firm favourite of using seagate hard drives as to date Iv'e had no problems at all with the products, whichever size I have purchased.
These drives were installed without any problems at all. They were accepted without change to my motherboard settings and without the need af any updates. Windows Vista had no problems identifying the drives which were installed as a pair both used for storage and backup purposes within a self built desktop PC.
All in all very pleased with the fast and quiet running of this model of Seagate drive, would reccommend them to anyone who has a setup able to accept them, and with a mordern computer and updated operating system they should be absolutley fine.

I now have several of these as part of a raid array...good solid product. Samsung better for OS disk otherwise this was the bang-for-buck if you need space.
